IMG_1505.JPG

We are pleased to confirm that we will be running 4 weeks of tennis camps during the Summer Holidays. Our tennis camps have become extremely popular over the last few years and are an excellent way for the children to spend time during their school holidays keeping fit, making new friends and improving their tennis. With the demand usually very high and limited places available it is advised to book your child’s place as early as possible to avoid any disappointment.

The tennis camps will run on the following dates:

Week 1 – Monday 20th – Friday 24th July

Week 2 – Monday 27th – Friday 31st July

Week 3 – Monday 3rd – Friday 7th August

Week 4 – Monday 10th – Friday 14th August

The tennis camps are divided into two different sessions:

10-11am Mini Red (4-8 years)

11am-4pm All Day (8 years +)

All players will be grouped with players of a similar age and standard.

Please print off and fill out one of the attached application forms and hand along with payment to to Rhys Morgan at Mackintosh LTC.

Quorn Family Tennis Cup

There was an excellent turnout of 14 children and their parents for the Quorn Family Tennis Cup on Sunday 3rd May. All of the players had a great time playing with some fantastic matches taking place throughout the competition.

The competition started with a round robin format with doubles teams playing against all of the other pairs within their group. The winner of each group and best 2nd place pair all progressed to the Semi-Finals. In the first Semi-final Lewis and Mark were up against Merlin and Rio – in an excellent match Lewis and Mark came through to book their place in the final. In the second Semi-final Tilly and Mark played Rocco and Becky – in a nail-biting match Rocco and Becky won on a sudden death point 10-9 to reach the final. With lots of people watching there were some amazing rallies in the final – Rocco and Becky both played really well to win 10-6 in the final.

After all of the matches had finished all of the children were presented with a certificate. Lewis and Mark won some grips and a drawstring bag for finishing runners-up. Rocco and Becky won some grips and a tennis cap, plus an invitation to go and play at one of the British Tennis Summer Grass Court events, where they will play some of the other winners from across the UK and get the chance to watch some professional tennis.

Successful Winter Season for Mackintosh Tennis Teams

It has been an outstanding Winter season for the Mackintosh tennis teams. All four teams playing in the Cymru Kitchens South Wales Doubles Winter Leagues won their respective divisions gaining promotion for the next Winter season.

Some of the highlights of the Winter season include:

  • Men’s 1st team captain Neil Edwards turning up against former club Bridgend still feeling the effects of the previous night
  • Welsh international player Emily Watson turning up to play a Mixed doubles match against Rhondda and having to brush ice off the court to play
  • Mixed team captain Emma McClory getting distracted by chickens escaping from their pen during an important Mixed doubles match away to Cwmbran
  • Tom Griffiths’ awkward conversation with Cwmbran players about teams/players we don’t like playing against
  • The return of Mackintosh legend and Welsh Ladies Veteran player Kath Mutter in a vital fixture for the ladies team to help clinch the league title

The table below shows the finishing positions in the leagues.

The Summer season starts in May, with players keen to follow on from the success of the Winter league campaigns. Team players have been busy practicing ahead of the Summer season with Men’s team practice taking place on Thursday at 6:30pm and Ladies team practice taking place at 6pm on Wednesdays – new players are always welcome to come along and join our teams.

Eggscellent Easter Tennis Camps 2015

Our Easter Tennis Camps once again proved to be a huge success this year. A total of 71 different children had a great time improving their tennis during the course of the 2 weeks. We were once again extremely lucky to have dry weather for 2 weeks, despite the strong winds and threats of rain in the first week, the second week made up for it as the children enjoyed playing tennis in glorious sunshine throughout the week.

There will be more tennis camps taking place during May half term and Summer Holidays – bookings are now being taken for both. Please contact Head Coach Rhys Morgan to book your place.

Frying Pan Mini Tennis Competition

With this Tuesday 17th February falling on Shrove Tuesday, we have decided to run Social Tennis with a difference for this week.

Commencing at 7pm we will be running a Frying Pan Mini Tennis competition. Normal tennis rules will apply, however entrants will be required to play with a frying pan instead of a racket. Members are encouraged to bring along their own frying pans to play with. The event is open to all adults and stronger juniors. Entries will cost £2 per person and will include a pancake in the clubhouse after the competition finishes.

There will also be an opportunity to play usual Social Tennis for those players knocked out of the competition and after the competition ends.
