Rhys Morgan – Head Coach
Rhys is an LTA Accredited + Coach with an LTA Level 4 Senior Club Coach qualification. Rhys also has recently graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University with a Master’s degree in Sports Coaching. Rhys has over 10 years of experience coaching tennis, working with players of all standards from complete beginners right up to some of the top ranked Junior players in Wales. Rhys is also an LTA Primary Schools tutor and is very experienced in delivering tennis in primary and secondary school’s settings. Rhys is a firm believer of creating an environment that allows players to have lots of fun playing tennis whilst learning new skills. Outside of tennis, Rhys enjoys a range of other sports including golf, snooker, pool and skiing.
Emlyn Williams – Lead Coach
Emlyn is a Level 3 LTA Accredited + Coach with 7 years coaching experience and has been playing from a young age. Emlyn recently graduated from Cardiff Met University with a 1st class degree in Sports Coaching. Emlyn has achieved his Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification and has attended a Strength and Conditioning Foundation Workshop under the UKSCA framework. Emlyn plans to further develop this interest in 2020. Emlyn is a keen golfer and enjoys skiing.
Emma McClory – Lead Coach
Emma is an LTA Level 2 Qualified Coach with 6 years of coaching experience. Emma has been playing tennis for over 7 years having been inspired to start playing after attending a few Cardio Tennis sessions. Emma is a qualified Primary School teacher, which explains the excellent rapport she is able to develop with the children. With her knowledge of the new curriculum for Wales and understanding of the physical needs of children, Emma runs a fantastic Tots Tennis programme. Emma also does lots of work behind the scenes at the club supporting the Head Coach with administrative tasks, producing promotional material and lots more.
Matt Parry – Lead Coach
Matt is an LTA Level 3 Accredited + coach with 6 years’ experience and has been playing competitive tennis from a young age. Matt is currently working towards his Level 4 Senior Club Coach qualification. Matt has recently joined the coaching team from Oxfordshire, where he has been working for the last 4 years. While working in multiple venues around the Oxfordshire area, Matt had the opportunity to work with players from beginner to county level. When not on court, Matt enjoys cooking new styles of food, however disastrous it might turn out.
Ollie Crossley – Lead Coach
Ollie is an LTA Level 2 qualified coach and started assisting at the age of 14. Since completing his first coaching qualification at the age of 16, Ollie has continued to offer coaching to his local club before heading to university. As a player, he has represented Oxfordshire from U10 to U18 and has played in various national tournaments. He is currently studying economics in Cardiff University and is playing tennis competitively in the BUCS league in the second team. Outside of tennis, Ollie enjoys playing football and golf.
Will Dunlop – Lead Coach
Will is an LTA Level 3 qualified coach and has joined Mackintosh having worked at Salisbury Tennis Club for 5 years. His coaching experience started at Downton Tennis Club, in Wiltshire, where he first learnt to play tennis. Will coached for a Summer in the USA, coaching between travelling through America and then Europe. The experience he gained coaching in the USA alongside players who have competed at Wimbledon, allowed him to learn new methods of coaching from high level players and coaches. Will has become a regular in the Men’s first team at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Where he studied Sport Media and also competes for the teams at Mackintosh.
Amy Wright – Lead Coach
Amy is a LTA Level 3 qualified tennis coach with 8 years experience. Amy is heavily involved with the student tennis programme at Cardiff Metropolitan University and is currently the University Tennis Co-ordinator. Amy graduated with a 1st class honours degree in Sport and Exercise science. She is currently studying a masters in Sport Psychology and thrives to involve this element when on court. Amy has represented the women’s first team at University for several years and now represents Mackintosh in both the Ladies and Mixed Teams. When not on court, she loves being around her family and friends, particularly her dog!
Josie Culliford – Lead Coach
Josie is an LTA Level 3 accredited coach with 4 years coaching experience. She has been playing since since the age of 5 and now competes at county level. Her biggest tennis highlight is playing the the grass courts at Wimbledon in the Junior Road to Wimbledon competition in 2015. Josie is currently studying Sports Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University and plays for the ladies 1st team. Josie has recently joined the coaching team and enjoys coaching people of all ages, making sure its fun for everyone and hopes to continue this in her future career.
Alex Richards – Lead Coach
Alex is a Level 2 coach with 6 years coaching experience both in the UK and the USA. He has played NCAA university tennis in America and ranked as high as number 20 in Texas. Alex represents both the Men’s first team and mixed team here at Mackintosh and has enjoys competing in external tournaments. In 2021, Alex was the runner-up of the Men’s Open Singles and won the Men’s Doubles at the Welsh Championships. Alex has a bachelor degree in Sport Science and has recently finished a Master’s in Computer Science.
Millie Connolly – Assistant Coach
Millie has recently qualified as a Level 1 Assistant coach, having been a Tennis Leader for 4 years previously. Millie started playing tennis when she was 7 and has been at Mackintosh since January 2016. Millie is excited to develop her coaching and leadership skills further and become more involved with the coaching team. Millie is a committed and enthusiastic member of the club and enjoys representing the club in team matches. Millis is currently in Year 13 studying A-levels in History, Religious Studies and English Literature and is going on to study journalism in university next year. Millie would like to become a sports journalist in print or broadcast with a specialisation in Sports. Alongside tennis, Millie is a massive football fan and has had a Cardiff City season ticket for many years.
Eve Wynne-Owen – Assistant Coach
Eve has recently qualified as a Level 1 Assistant Coach after a fantastic 4 years as a tennis leader. She has been a member of Mackintosh for over 10 years and started playing tennis at the end of 4. Eve enjoys working with children and has experience working with those with additional learning needs. Eve is a Welsh speaker and is able to communicate and coach through Welsh. Eve is keen on being part of the coaching team and ensuring the club is a supportive and positive environment for everyone. Outside of tennis, Eve attends the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama as part of their young actors’ group. She likes Art and is currently doing her first year of A-Levels in Art, Drama and Photography.
Bea Ryland – Assistant Coach
Bea has recently qualified as a LTA Level 1 Assistant Coach. Bea has been playing tennis at Mackintosh for almost 10 years old where she started as a Mini Red player on a Saturday morning. Bea now plays regularly at the club and attends ladies nights and represents the club in the ladies second team. She is currently a student at Cardiff High School studying GCSEs including P.E as she enjoys a wide range of sports. Her bubbly personality is infectious and shares her love for the game during her coaching.
Luc Evans – Assistant Coach
Luc is a Level 1 Assistant coach and has 4 years experience of being a tennis leader. He has played at the club for 7 years and has represented the club in the 14&U, 16&U and Men’s 4th team. Luc regularly enters in the internal competitions like the Club Championships. He attends Cardiff High School Sixth Form where he studies French, History, English Literature and Economics. Outside of school, Luc playing and helping out at the club. Other than tennis, Luc’s interests include music, film and basketball. Luc is really enjoying his first taste of sports coaching at the Mack and hopes to continue to improve with the mentorship of the coaching team.
Louise Foley – Assistant Coach
Louise is a Level 1 Assistant Coach and has been a member of Mackintosh for 8 years. In this time, she has played for the 16&U, 18&U and ladies teams. Louise regularly attends coaching and social tennis sessions. Louise is a 3rd year Medical Pharmacology Student at Cardiff University and loves to balance her studies with time at the club. When Louise isn’t at the club, she enjoys baking, painting and listening to music. She is keen to develop her coaching and teaching skills with the help of the amazing Mackintosh team.
Jack Menin-Steere – Assistant Coach
Jack is a Level 1 Assistant Coach and has been coaching for over a year. Prior to that he was a Tennis Leader and this motivated him to take the fist step on the coaching ladder. Jack has been playing tennis for over 12 years and the reason he has played for so long is that he enjoys the warm and friendly atmosphere that the Mackintosh offers. Currently, Jack is studying hard for his A levels as he is hoping to go to University in September to study Paramedic Science. Despite working hard for his A-levels, he still enjoys coming to the Mackintosh and taking part in tennis and coaching activities. when not studying or coaching Jack enjoys running and is training to take part in the Cardiff Half Marathon.
Tennis Leaders
We currently have a team of 10 Tennis Leaders who help out with various sessions and competitions at the club. Our Tennis Leaders are older juniors at the club, aiming to gain experience and develop leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of tennis.
